The Nanny 1965

With Joey Fane back home, all Virginia and Bill Fane want is a calm and respectful atmosphere amongst the house. Only something is still disturbing Joey and that one thing is the Nanny. Whilst Nanny is a loving woman who helps around the house, Joey sees her as someone else someone who believes is responsible for the death of his sister.

Ooh, I can't wait to watch this.  You haven't posted a good ole B&W in a while.  I gather she's no Mary Poppins, either.  With Bette Davis in the lead role, it must be good. 

And I guess she doesn't have Fran Drescher's "The Nanny" laugh, either.

This one is a hard one for me. I didn't know who I disliked more. The kid or the nanny. Both got on my nerves. But its a film that gave birth to a whole new concept. Should we take the word of a kid over an adult. Do kids understand what's going on around them.

Hmm, food for fodder, to be sure.  There are, of course, some devious adults in the world so  that must be taken into account. 
Darn it, I will be too busy to watch this during the week.  :(

I wanted to post some interesting trivia, of fun facts to know and forget, as I refer to them, but I can't find the way to here what came in a long email.   :-\

I would trust the word of a kid over an adult. Kids have a hard time describing to begin with and they try to make sure they describe what they saw right. They make an effort to be right and truthful. As adults I know from my own experience that I have a habit of deciding how much information I will give depending on whom I'm talking too.

Wow, you left clues here but I thought this was a devil child.  I almost stopped watching the movie because I couldn't stand what a brat he was and all he got was "Go to your room."   I'm glad I persevered.  I wanted to smack the kid and the mother.  But then it all came together. 

He was very articulate with his young neighbor but just bratty at home.  But one can't forget that he was only ten.  The father had absolutely no warmth but I don't think that was terrible uncommon during those times.  At least that's what I tell my uncle when he tells me how cold his own father (my grandfather) was toward him.  Though it was clear that his sister was accidentally killed, they should not have been left alone.  What a series of unfortunate events.

Yeah I found this film to be irritating at first. But then it started to come to come together. And Bette Davies is such a brilliant actress. I thought, I know if I bug out early then I'll definitely miss something even better from her. She isn't predictable her roles aren't always the same and it's hard to figure how something will pan out with her unless you watch it.

That is exactly what I thought when I wanted to turn it off because I was irritated by the kid and by the parents.  I thought, wait, if Bette Davis is in this movie, it is bound to be worth my time and it was.  Brilliant actress.

Olivia de Havilland is my favorite actress from that era and Bette Davis I like for her strong performances.
